Transit: JFK TXL

Up at 10am to work on Peter's computer. Got some installations done but a couple of the disc images were corrupted. Very disappointing, but Peter didn't seem overly concerned. Started to get everything packed up and squeezed in a couple of quick demos on the finer points of proper videography using my new Sony PDX10. Managed to get everything stuffed into my bags, which with the addition of a medium sized video camera, two still camera lenses, a microphone and numerous other bit and bobs, weighed considerably more than when I arrived in town.

Got out of Peter's a little before 3pm and headed for the subway. Retraced my steps back to JFK and had a bit of a flash-back to my first trip to Africa in 2003. I had forgotten that South African Airlines shared facilities with Delta. The lines were just as horrendously long as when I was last through, but the folks going to Berlin were pulled out and directed to another check-in counter that was empty. Got to the gate with plenty of time to spare. There was some confusion about my seat assignment, but it got sorted and I scored a bulkhead seat just behind the business section. Things started to take a turn for the worse soon thereafter. Our departure time came and went and more people kept coming onboard. About an hour after our scheduled departure, they let another big group of people on. Just shy of two hours passed our departure time, we finally took off. Even with the trip ending up being a hour shorter than initially scheduled, I was not holding my breath that any of the group would still be hanging around the airport in Berlin when I finally arrived. Getting to Poland could be very interesting indeed.
