The fleas are being to take their toll on my flesh.
Up at noon again. fALk had been up for an hour or so already and Michael had left for the day. Had tea with fALk and Willow and bought some melons from a street vendor. The melon was perfectly ripe and made a nice breakfast. Michael had given fALk directions to a nearby Internet cafe, so we gathered up Renee and went out in search of it. fALk was a little unclear about the exact whereabouts, so we wandered around for a bit before we came across it. It was a very pleasant cafe that happened to have free wireless access. We plunked down and got set up. With only one wall socket between the four of us and Renee's computer lacking a wireless card, someone had to go back and get some other supplies to make our stay more pleasant. I hiked back to the house and grabbed a power strip, an extra laptop power supply and an ethernet cable.
Back a the cafe we attempted to get Renee's computer up and running by sharing the Internet connections on mine and fALk's computers. Ran into problems with the way the wireless router was configured. It was serving up addresses in the same range as those that the Internet sharing was and the Powerbook was not able to figure out what it was doing. After a couple of hours we had to call it quits and get on with our work. I got the blog caught up and organized some pictures of PoznaĆ for Steven to review.
We took a break for dinner around 17:00. Had some delicious pasta and roasted vegetables. Right back at it afterwards. I didn't really look up again until the others started to make motions about leaving. Dave Hurley reminded me that the codes we had to take the End User Exams for Apple's DVD Studio Pro and Motion expired at the end of the day. I decided that I should stay and take the tests. I felt fairly confident about DVD Studio Pro, having worked in DVD for the passed five years. I was much less sure about Motion, since I had only worked on two small projects and had not yet had a chance to even take a look at the tutorial book. Sure enough, I passed the DVD Studio Pro test and failed the Motion one. Will have to study up and retake the test at a later date. Still also need to take the T3 Trainer Tests at some point in the future as well as the Final Cut Pro End User Exam. Passing all of these will result in my having trainer certification for all the applications.
Just before the others left, fALk and Michael were having a chat argument about Michael's daughter and fALk's feeling that she was a burden on us because she was bored and had nothing to do. Michael insisted that we all just leave the situation alone, but fALk and Willow insist on inviting Renee with us. Michael came by as I was half an hour into the DVD Studio Pro test to tell me that he was planning on having a discussion with fALk and offering a choice between leaving the situation alone, or being asked to leave. This would seriously derail the projects that were planned and it made me very nervous that this was happening so early on in our stay here. Needless to say I was a little distracted and then relieved to find that everyone was still civil when I returned to the house at 00:30. It turned out that no discussion had taken place, having been preempted by the arrival of the others bearing ice cream. They had spent the rest of the evening in a restaurant down by the ocean enjoying themselves and were too tired when they got back to have the discussion. Disaster had been averted if only overnight. Talked with Michael until 02:00 before calling it a night.
