Up at 10:00. Got the second tape from the previous nights show digitizing. Spent the rest of the day organizing new clips for the show in the evening. Michael took off around 15:00 for a four day trip to Çeşme.
Got everything double checked and packed up for an 20:15 departure to Indigo. The cab ride was short and I arrived at Indigo right before 21:00. Started setting up, but hadn't made it very far before Gökçe arrived. Went over all the hardware and how it was connected with her. She joked about having another 8 week course on just how to hook up all the equipment. When everything was set, I ducked out to Café Culina for some dinner. Gökçe was full of şeker bayram (holiday at the end of ramadan with lots of sweets being eaten) treats, so she opted to stay and play with the equipment. Dinner took a little longer than expected and I was ten minutes passed the time I said I would be back. I was still back ahead of the club opening, but Gökçe was still nervous.
It was a dinamo FM night, with two of their DJs being the main acts. Uygar Pulat opened with a hot and heavy set that had some really high BPM tunes cranking away to the empty dance floor. Gökçe worked on one of the Mordka Touch synths while I created some mask shapes for it with 3L.
Gökçe working intently with Touch.
Uygar Pulat and Dr. Rex.
Dr. Rex was up next. He played through a well paced set that ended with a scorcher that seemed to be too hot for Onur Özer to handle. Onur played one song and then disappeared for a good twenty minutes. Batu jumped in to keep things moving and the two of them tag teamed for the rest of the night. It was a nice mix and they worked well together.
A couple of songs into Dr. Rex's set I switched out of Touch and 3L for some cinematic clips in GridPro. Worked through a selection from Vanishing Point on my PowerBook and Michael's. Was humming along when Michael's machine crashed hard and needed to be rebooted. Spent a nerve-wracking fifteen minutes trying to get it and the external firewire drive to play together and everything loaded again while at the same time keeping the show moving. Was happy when it was all up and online without further mishap.
Gökçe found Michael's scopitone clips and we worked through those for a while before moving into some motion graphics material and then into some of Hexstatic's Robopop and Amon Tobin's 4 Ton Mantis. The haz-mat skater footage was up next and mixed with some of Takashi Ito's Spacy. Moved into pure pattern footage when Onur and Batu got going.
Batu and Onur with Batu. They tag teamed through the later half of the evening.
Batu coaxing just the sound he wants out of the equipment.
Gökçe started to fade out around 03:00, having only gotten two hours of sleep the previous night. I worked through the rest of the set and finished out the night at 05:30. Chatted with a very drunk woman who was having a hard time figuring out the configuration of Batu, Onur and their respective blonde girlfriends. Took a while to get everything packed up and lugged out of the club. Onur hailed me just as I was leaving the club as he and Batu were particularly interested in getting photos of the evening. I complimented them on their set and went on my way. Got a cab back to Ortaköy and was in bed by 07:00.
